How the Foundation Is Governed
Who decides what, and who answers for it.
The Board
Sets direction, approves budgets and reviews programme delivery, finances and safeguarding. It also decides what the foundation will not take on — usually the more consequential decision.
Programme leads
Each programme — Gurukul, gaushala, healthcare, Ayurveda centre, old age home, cultural seva — has someone accountable for day-to-day running and for reporting what actually happened, including when it went badly.
Resident staff and volunteers
The people who open the sheds at five in the morning and stand at the registration desk at a camp. Anyone working with children is screened, briefed on safeguarding and bound by a written code of conduct.
Accountability in Practice
Governance is only worth the sentence it is written in if somebody can be held to it. In practice that means four things.
Restricted funds stay restricted. A contribution given for cow feed is recorded against the gaushala and spent there. Nobody has the authority to reallocate it because another programme is short.
Programmes report what went wrong. A camp with poor turnout, a crop of fodder that failed, a student who dropped out — these are reported, because a report that only contains successes is not a report.
Safeguarding is not optional. Screening and a code of conduct apply to every adult with access to children, including visitors and donors.
