Where You Are Needed

Real Roles, Real Hours

We would rather match you honestly than find you something to keep you busy.

Teaching & tutoring

Where: the Gurukul. Commitment: weekly, term-long.

Subject teaching, bridge support for children who arrive behind their year group, English conversation, and evening study supervision. Children form attachments — please come regularly or not at all.

Cow care

Where: the gaushala. Commitment: early mornings, any day.

Feeding rounds, grooming, cleaning sheds, refilling water. It is physical, it starts before sunrise, and it is the most consistently needed help we have.

Medical camps

Where: villages around Noida and Vrindavan. Commitment: a Sunday.

Registration desks, guiding elderly patients between stations, translation, packing medicines, and the follow-up calls afterwards. No medical training needed for most of it.

Clinical volunteering

Who: doctors, dentists, optometrists, nurses, physiotherapists. Commitment: one camp a quarter is useful.

Ophthalmology, general medicine, orthopaedics, gynaecology, paediatrics and psychiatry are all in demand. We will build the calendar around your availability.

Bhandara & events

Where: Vrindavan and neighbourhood temples. Commitment: event days.

Cooking, serving, seating elderly guests, washing and clearing. Turn up early — the work before the event is heavier than the event itself.

Time with elders

Where: the old age home. Commitment: regular, however short.

Sitting and talking, reading aloud, writing letters, helping at meals, teaching something. The single most requested thing, and the one people most often underestimate.

Professional skills

Who: accountants, lawyers, designers, writers, photographers, IT. Commitment: project-based, remote possible.

Bookkeeping and fund accounting, statutory compliance, safeguarding policy review, website and print material, documentation of the Ayurveda research.

Gardening & grounds

Where: the Gurukul campus. Commitment: seasonal.

Medicinal plant beds, composting, kitchen garden and general upkeep. Useful if you know plants, and teachable if you do not.

Fundraising & outreach

Where: anywhere. Commitment: your own.

Organising a collection, sponsoring a bhandara among friends, introducing us to a hospital or a supplier, or simply telling people accurately what we do.

The Process

How to Start

Tell us honestly

What you can do, how often, and for how long. “One Sunday a month for a year” is more useful to us than “whenever I am free”.

We match you

Someone will call to talk it through. If we have nothing that fits, we will say so instead of inventing a role.

Screening and briefing

Anyone working with children or vulnerable adults is screened, briefed on safeguarding and asked to sign a code of conduct. This is not negotiable and it is not personal.

Show up

You will be shown the work by someone who does it. Expect to be useful on day one and expect to be corrected.

Common Questions

Volunteering — Your Questions

What is the minimum commitment?

It depends on the role. Camps and bhandaras work perfectly well with a single day. Teaching, and time with elders and children, need regularity — please commit to a term rather than a visit. A volunteer who stops coming does more harm than one who never came.

Do I need any qualifications?

For most roles, no. Clinical volunteering obviously requires registration and we will ask to see it. For everything else what matters is turning up when you said you would.

Can students and young people volunteer?

Yes. Camp support, event work, gardening and documentation are all suitable. We provide certificates of volunteering where they are genuinely earned, and we will not sign for hours that were not worked.

Can I volunteer remotely?

Yes, for professional and skills-based work — accounting, legal, design, writing, translation, IT and documentation. Most other roles need you physically present, because that is the nature of the work.

Is there any cost, or any stipend?

Neither. Volunteering is unpaid, and we do not charge volunteers a fee or ask them to donate. Anyone who asks you to pay to volunteer with us is not us.

Can a company or college group volunteer together?

Yes, and group days work well at camps, bhandaras and on campus maintenance. Please plan with us in advance — twenty unbriefed people arriving at a gaushala at feeding time is a hindrance, not a help.
